Day 1: Arrival in Heraklion
Arrive in Heraklion and transfer to your hotel. Enjoy an introductory evening discussing Crete’s bird species and habitats. Dinner in a local tavern.
Day 2: Aposelemis Wetlands & Gouves Lagoon
Start at Aposelemis Wetlands, a haven for herons, kingfishers, and other waterfowl. Continue to Gouves Lagoon, observing migratory birds like flamingos and waders.
Day 3: Knossos & Mount Giouhtas
Visit the Knossos Palace, blending cultural history with birdwatching. Later, explore Mount Giouhtas, a hotspot for raptors like griffon vultures, buzzards, and kestrels.
Day 4: Lasithi Plateau & Kroustas Forest

Day 5: Agia Lake & Omalos Plateau

Day 6: Elafonissi & Paleochora
Visit Elafonissi Beach, where dunes and lagoons attract migratory birds. Later, explore the Paleochora Coast, home to seabirds and shorebirds like oystercatchers and gulls.
Day 7: Kourtaliotiko Gorge & Preveli Lagoon
Explore Kourtaliotiko Gorge, known for its breeding colonies of griffon vultures. Continue to Preveli Lagoon, a unique mix of palm groves and Libyan Sea shores with diverse bird species.
Day 8: Departure
Enjoy a relaxed morning with optional birdwatching near Heraklion before your departure.
